Another not for the TL;DR-hearted. Although I actually think I can communicate quite a bit of what I saw in pictures, so this may end up shorter than expected. Either way, here is my adventure in Seoul over Chuseok (clomplete with enough pictures to cause Blogger to have saving errors multiple times).

This post is not for the TL;DR-hearted. I decided to combine several posts that I could have/should have written into one long post. You have been warned. Feel free to skip ahead to Wednesday-Friday (which I had to move to the next post) if you're more interested in my trip out to Seoul!

Seriously. It’s the truth. I’m looking at the “major” things I did so far this week outside of school and it’s basically been: buy food, make food, eat food. Riveting I know. And there really isn’t anything too exotic because I try the seafood: get sick; I try the spicy food: get sick; I try to fried food: get sick… you get the picture. But look at my food adventures anyways!

Today I went to the Gyeongpo and visited the pavilion (Gyeongpodae) and the beach (Gyeongpohaebyeon). I flagged down my first taxi ever (wow, totally showing my suburban roots) and took it to the beach. I actually wanted to go to the pavilion itself, but I think 1) the taxi drivers are used to foreigners asking for the beach so they just go there, and 2) I think he may have asked if the beach was fine and I may have said yes. I really need to work on my listening comprehension (and just Korean in general).

My ARC (Alien Registration Card) arrived today at my school. Actually, it apparently arrived yesterday, but they messed something up so the immigration office sent out a new one. I had to pay 3500W, but that is a small price to pay to now have this very important piece of identification with me.

Turned on my heating system right when I got home today around 5PM and just had my first hot shower at my apartment after almost two full weeks of just sucking it up and enduring the cold. The water was actually only hot (and very much piping-hot) for about 5 minutes, but I am so happy. These things make you realize how lucky you are: there are people all over the world that don't have potable water, let alone cold, running water. Appreciate.

First off, let me excuse the bad picture quality for some of these pictures: public bathrooms just don’t have the greatest lighting here and these pictures were taken with my iPod which I just happened to have on me; so, sorry, no professional bathroom photos. But there are still photos.

Yesterday marked my official introduction to the school. By 9AM, the start of first period, all of the students had gathered on the playing fields outside of the school. The teachers stood on broad wooden stairs that lined the hill leading down to the fields while the students stood in rows (it appeared they were sorted by class) facing a pavilion/stage that jutted out of the side of the hill.

Today Rudy and I went to grab lunch in downtown Gangneung. I just have to post because I ordered two things on my own; it's a milestone I swear. Provided, I'm pretty sure I mangled the pronunciation and grammar, but thank you to all the service people who re-pronounced it and made helpful gestures about receipts and sizes. You will probably never read this blog, but thank you for not laughing at me and understanding that I'm trying.
